December 29, 2010

2 Yoga Camp Australia: a low cost, family friendly opportunity to experience the benefits of a retreathttp://www.yogacamp.com.au/ is a low-cost, family friendly opportunity for everyone to experience the benefits of a retreat. Connect with your spirituality and other yoga-minded people in a beautiful bush setting on the Goulburn River. Suitable as an introduction to yoga as well as an opportunity for more experienced practitioners to deepen and reinforce their yoga sadhana.

Intention behind yoga camp

We believe that everyone should be able to have a retreat-style experience regardless of how much they earn, so we have created an inspiring event with experienced, qualified instructors that is affordable for everyone.

As part of our measures to keep costs down, we ask that everyone helps to serve, prepare, or clean up after one meal during the weekend. You will learn how to prepare your food to maximise nutrition, as well as have an opportunity to experience the spiritual benefits of service!

As this event is a family friendly yoga event, we ask that you keep your drugs and alcohol at home. Thank you.

Meditation-Yoga Teacher Dadaveda on Key Benefits of Meditation

November 22, 2010

2 Meditation Yoga Teacher Dadaveda on Key Benefits of MeditationWhat can we gain from meditation? In this short presentation, Acarya Vedaprajinananda Avadhuta (“Dada Veda”) summarizes the benefits and gives succinct examples for the benefit of those new to meditation as well as experienced in this mental exercise. Dada is an accomplished meditation-yoga teacher and has given lectures and workshops throughout the world. Dada Veda is also an unusual singer-songwriter, and a social worker as well.

This presentation was recorded in the home of John Elliott, near Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in October 2008. It was edited by Millennium Communications, Inc. ( www.mcicom.com), under the direction of Mr. Elliott.

His name ‘Dada Veda’ is a shortened form of his full monastic name Acarya Vedaprajinananda Avadhuta. ‘Dada’ means respected elder brother.

Dada was born in NYC, and shortly after completing his college education he met an Indian monk who taught him meditation. In the years 1971-1976 he worked as a volunteer for the Ananda Marga Society, teaching yoga as well as editing the society’s nationwide  journal. During his time as a yoga volunteer, Dada immersed himself in the devotional songs (‘bhajans’) and mantra chanting (‘kirtan’) that play an important role in his meditation-yoga practice. Dada often led chanting sessions, playing his guitar and singing.

In 1977 Dada became a full-time monk and his first assignment was in France, where he lectured and taught extensively for the next five years. In subsequent years he taught meditation in the Far East (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan), and then was assigned to Europe again, teaching meditation and yoga throughout Western and Eastern Europe.

For the past nine years Dada has been based in Albania where he started and still manages a kindergarten, The Albanian Sunrise School ( www.albaniansunrise.com), serving a needy community not far from Tirana, the nation’s capital.

In addition to his work as a meditation and yoga teacher, Dada is also a singer-songwriter and uses his music to convey a message of spirituality, ecology, vegetarianism and social harmony.
